Start with the real scope, not inspiration photos
Inspiration images help communicate style, but they do not define a buildable scope. List every area included in the project: base cabinets, uppers, pantry units, island, appliance panels, finished ends, crown, toe kicks, fillers, interior accessories, countertops and installation. If demolition, electrical, plumbing, flooring or painting belongs to another contractor, identify that boundary in writing.
For renovations, note what is staying. Uneven plaster, out-of-square corners, existing radiators, soffits and old floors can materially affect scribing and installation. Philadelphia rowhouses and older homes often require more field coordination than a new, square room.

Separate cabinet construction from the visible finish
The door style is only the visible layer. A comparable proposal should also identify box material, back construction, edge treatment, drawer-box construction, hinges, slides, shelves and finished ends. Two kitchens can look similar in a rendering while using very different materials and hardware behind the doors.
Decide where durability matters most. A painted face may use a stable paint-grade substrate while a clear-finished door depends on species, cut and grain matching. Wet areas, trash pullouts, wide drawers and tall pantry doors each impose different demands.

Lock appliance and hardware information early
Appliance widths alone are not enough. Installation drawings show ventilation, door swing, trim kits, clearances, utility locations and panel requirements. Send the exact model information before shop drawings are approved.
Hardware decisions affect cabinet widths, interior space and cost. Identify pullouts, organizers, lift systems, integrated lighting and specialty storage early. Adding them after fabrication begins is rarely a clean substitution.

What a useful cabinet proposal should contain
A useful proposal makes comparison possible. It should describe included rooms and quantities, primary materials, door style, finish, hardware allowance or specification, drawing and sample process, delivery, installation, exclusions, payment milestones and the assumptions that could change price.
The lowest number is meaningless when one quote includes finished panels, hardware and installation while another does not. Normalize the scope before choosing a fabricator.

Prepare one complete request package
